The
origin of the game of billiard goes back to the ancient Egyptians.
More
detailed reference to the game is found in some documents of the court of
the Kings of France.
However
we can pinpoint exactly when slate was first used as a billiard bed: 1826.
It
was the year that John Thurston, manufacturer of billiard tables in London,
decided to replace the oak bed with the slate one which had a 5 cm.
thickness.
The
production of slabs varies according to different types of games
which may change from country to country. We can have slabs in one piece
“coincop” operated pool tables, in three pieces with pockets or
without for carom or three cushion billiard, in five pieces for
snooker.
We
can work on any kind of pattern to satisfy standard and customized
requests (pockets, holes, dowels, chamfered edges to avoid tearing the
table’s cloth and perfectly diamond gauged surface). |
